Pune: Following the wall collapse incident in the wee hours of Saturday that killed 15 labourers and injured two, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued stop work notices to Kanchan Developers. Civic officials have checked the adjacent buildings and parking areas of other buildings as a precautionary measure.
After this incident, Member of Parliament Girish Bapat, Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, Mayor Mukta Tilak, Deputy Mayor Siddharth Dhende, District Collector Naval Kishor Ram, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Additional Municipal Commissioner Rubal Agrawal, City Engineer Prashant Waghmare visited the spot.
While speaking to Sakal Times, Additional Municipal Commissioner Rubal Agrawal said, “The incident took place at around 1.30 am on Saturday. The first call was made to fire brigade from the site. After that, fire brigade and Disaster Management rescue team reached the spot and started the rescue work.”
She said, “The PMC has issued stop-work notices to the concerned builder. The district collector has announced formation of a seven-member committee that includes civic officials and College of Engineering of Pune professor, police officials, labour officials. The committee will file a report within a week. After that, the PMC will take strict action against the culprit.”
No need to worry about the adjacent buildings
After this incident, there is a panic situation in the surrounding buildings. Civic officials met residents and cleared their doubts.
City Engineer Prashant Waghmare said, “COEP team visited and inspected the site and adjacent buildings. There is no harm to the adjacent building. We have barricaded the area near the collapsed compound wall and have instructed residents not to use the area for parking or for any other activity. We have issued a notice to concern builders.”
