Crime Branch seizes three buses
Two buses used same number; the third bus used scrapped number; 4 arrested
PUNE: Officials of the Crime Branch Unit 5 of Pune city police on Saturday seized three luxury buses worth Rs 65 lakh belonging to a tours and travels company, as two of them bore the same registration number, while the third used a number that was scrapped. The tour operator was plying these buses across Maharashtra. Four persons were arrested in the case.
Head Constable Amzad Pathan received information about the use of the wrong number plates and that and three of them were parked near Sai Temple in Kalepadal, Hadapsar. A team led by Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Tasgaonkar raided the place and nabbed two drivers who tried to escape with the buses.
Police Inspector Datta Chavan, in-charge of Unit 5, said that MH-12 KQ-6006 number plates were found on two buses belonging to Shriram Tours & Travels, while MH-04 FK-6299 number plate was on the third bus, which was already scrapped by the RTO and had a different registration number. This fraud was allegedly being done to save on taxes and thus cheat the government.
The arrested persons were identified as bus owners Kashinath Ambadas Kekan (55) of Kalepadal, Somnath Ashok Deshmukh (29) of Phursungi, and drivers Balaji Maruti Sarge (27) of Kalepadal and Babasaheb (38) of Handewadi Road. They were handed over to Hadapsar police station for investigation.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Morale, DCP (Crime) Shirish Sardeshpande, ACP Bhanupratap Barge supervised the investigation team which included PSI Somnath Shendge and policemen Pradeep Surve, Pravin Shinde, Rajesh Ransing, Datta Katam, Samir Shaikh, Rajabhau Bhorde, Mahesh Salvi, Kerba Galande, Daya Shegar and Mahesh Waghmare.
