Heavy rain and floods spell Rs 50 crore loss for MSRTC

An MSRTC official said several buses in depots, mostly affected areas have been damaged. The department has an estimated loss of Rs 50 crore. In August alone, the Transport Department faced a revenue loss of Rs 100 crore, which included property loss as well.

Pune: Cancellation of several trips of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses has resulted in a loss of around Rs 50 crore from ticket revenue in 10 days. 

In Pune, Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara division, 55,000 bus trips were cancelled resulting in a loss of Rs 11.13 crore. Around 30,000 trips were cancelled in Kolhapur division alone, resulting in a loss of Rs 50 lakh. 

According to the MSRTC Mumbai Head Office, “The rain has affected State Transport (ST) across Maharashtra. The Marathwada division has cancelled several trips. The transport department is facing a loss of Rs 5 crore every day.”

Sangli division cancelled 8,000 trips and lost revenue of Rs 4.25 crore from ticket sale.
