After almost two years, Big Little Lies is back and Meryl Streep is playing the devil again! During the season premier, viewers were first introduced to Meryl’s character, Mary Louise Wright, and as soon as Meryl appeared on screen to deliver her first lines — fake teeth and all — Big Little Lies viewers instantly began applauding how she nailed Mary Louise’s unhinged, venomous character flawlessly.

Early in the episode, Mary Louise delivers the takedown to end all takedowns when she savagely insults Madeline Martha Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon) about her height, saying, “I find little people to be untrustworthy.”

Almost immediately, Big Little Lies fans began petitioning for the moment to be included in Meryl’s Emmy reel, with many insisting that despite feeling ‘personally victimised’ by the insult, they absolutely loved it and hailed Meryl’s performance as worthy of the Emmys.

Social media users shared their reactions to the shocking takedown on Twitter. “Meryl Streep already earned that 2020 Emmy,” tweeted Jamie Jirak while a writer Jenna Guillaume posted: “I am SCREAMING at Meryl’s character. She is SAVAGE.”

“Love Meryl Streep so much that I was not even offended when she said she didn’t trust short people,” added another viewer.
