And the war continues

The embers of the Hrithik-Kangana spat refuse to die. But will this affect their respective films, which release next month, and who is to gain from this controversy?

The Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut battle is far from over. After a few months of calm, the fight took an ugly turn this week. Rangoli Chandel, Kangana’s sister-manager, claimed on Twitter that Hrithik’s sister Sunaina Roshan is being physically abused by her family after Sunaina tweeted: “And living in hell continues ... gosh I’m tired. I support Kangana all through.”

After which, Rangoli wrote a series of Twitter posts. She wrote, “Sunaina Roshan is asking Kangana for help, her family is physically assaulting her because she is in love with a Muslim man from Delhi. Last week, they got a lady cop who slapped her, her father also hit her, her brother is trying to put her behind bars... I fear her dangerous family might harm her, we want to make this public because Sunaina (is) calling Kangana and crying all the time, Kangana doesn’t know how to help her... so now she has blocked her number, but we fear for her safety.”

Rangoli further mentioned: “Everyone has a right to love whoever they want, hopefully this will scare Roshans and they back off... Kangana was so distressed after so many calls from Sunaina. Roshans are capable of harming Kangana, but this time around I am very careful I myself also spoke to Sunaina, I have kept all the messages and recordings, Sunaina is in trouble for sure and asking Kangana for help, but her father and brother must not harm Kangana I have her back but at the same time it’s my moral duty to help Sunaina also, present these facts to the world on Sunaina’s request, so that Roshans know they are being watched now.”

The Bang Bang actor and his family did not respond to the series of tweets, however,  Hrithik’s former wife Sussanne Khan responded to the allegations and even defended the Roshan family. She wrote a note on Instagram saying: “As a part of my experience with all concerned and in my life span of being a part of this close knit family, I know Sunaina, to be an extremely loving, warm, caring person, who is in an unfortunate situation. Sunaina’s father is undergoing a major health crisis, her mother is herself vulnerable to say the least. Please respect the families tough period, each family goes through such times. I needed to say this as someone who has been a part of this family for long (sic).”

Both Hrithik and Kangana have films lined up for release next month. While Super 30, which stars Hrithik in the title role of mathematician Anand Kumar, releases on July 13,  Kangana’s Mental Hai Kya, which also stars Rajkummar Rao, releases on July 26.

Industry insiders believe that Kangana and her sister Rangoli’s constant picking on Hrithik is kind of bringing negative publicity to the actress. Earlier, Rangoli attacked the actor because both Hrithik and Kangana’s films were set to clash at the box office. Later, the makers rescheduled the dates. Rangoli tweeted: “What to expect from a man who always prefers to attack your back rather then meeting you in the battle field, jitna tu aur tera PR Kangana ko giraega utna he woh teri maregi.... so far it wasn’t her concern magar ab tu dekh... Jadoo.”

Will it also affect Vikas Bahl’s Super 30, which had its own share of controversies after the director was caught up in sexual harassment charges last year? This kind of postponed the release of the film and it was only after the Queen filmmaker got a clean chit, his name appeared in the credits. “I don’t think the ongoing fight is going to affect Super 30. People are bored of Hrithik-Kangana fight and no one is interested. But I don’t think this will stop anytime soon because both are adamant and are standing by their views. When they will realise that the public is no more responding to their fight, they will automatically stop,” says trade analyst Amod Mehra adding that Rangoli is actually helping give free publicity to Super 30.

Another trade analyst Atul Mohan says, “They have to realise that rather than harming the other person’s career, they are bringing negative publicity to themselves. Looks like Kangana and her sister Rangoli have nothing better to do because they are after Hrithik for a few years now. They keep ranting about every issue. Kangana is a very talented actress and she should focus on her work and career. We witnessed the same thing during the release of Simran. They should just move on. Hrithik is actually walking away with public’s sympathy because he is not reacting to the statements and tweets. These attacks are not going to help either of their films.”

Kangana and Hrithik’s infamous spat began three years ago after she hinted at Hrithik being her “silly ex-boyfriend”. This was followed by an exchange of legal complaints and war on social media.
